Also available are a limited number of jewelry pieces based on the famous sculptures. Thomas Blackshear’s trademark style is a blend of Art Nouveau and African culture, described by the artist as Afro-Noveau. Thomas has been quoted as saying: “My work is meant to transcend all racial and cultural lines, because in essence, the physical and spiritual expressions in my sculptures are all part of the human experience.” The recently introduced limited edition fine art prints, celebrating as they do human and natural beauty, are but one more illustration of his greatness.
The pieces of Stacy Bayne’s Maasai collection are unbelievably unique. They clearly reflect the tribal way of life which is rooted in the changing seasons, the land and their livestock. Created of bronze and wire with patina or color finishes, they are intricately linked with the evolution of Africa. The Maasai people face new challenges arising in part from the widening gulf between their nomadic lifestyle and modern Africa. Fiercely proud, elders pass their traditions to their sons and daughters, ensuring the sacred knowledge of tribal life will continue. Their daily activities are told like stories through the Maasai figurines in our collection.
